Subject: GEOG 102
Facilitator/Teacher: Allison Chun
Description of Work/Assignment: A reflection on culture and different aspects of countries in Central Asia. Find and describe a county in Central Asia that you would like to visit. This assignment addresses the Global awareness skill since I use knowledge and facts or rumors to describe a country and its political stance in the world. I am proud of this assignment since my grandmother once lived in Uzbekistan. I used the facts and knowledge that she told me and still tells me about the political situation going in the countries after the fall of the U.S.S.R. This assignment also made me proud since it takes back to the history of the cold war and WW2 which I studied and still study due to my interest in it. I developed and improved this assignment and the Global Awareness skill by researching and looking at what political and economical state Uzbekistan is in. The most difficult part was the research many reporters who had not been there and only used outside sources, sometimes provide a false claim, although with the help of a relative who lived there many conspiracies and theories became clear. I would spend more time on research and speaking to the people who live in Uzbekistan. I would try to find a better connection with the facts and how things look in reality compared to what the internet shows. This relates to my History knowledge where we had to learn how Central Asia functioned and worked, and how different cultures interact with each other. I would apply this to future learning by knowing what cultures do and how they interact with different societies and the outside world.
